A straight set, also known as unset or neutral set, is a tooth pattern used on band saw blades or other cutting tools, where the teeth are neither left-set nor right-set, remaining in line with the blade’s body. Straight set blades can produce a smoother surface finish and tighter tolerances, making them suitable for cutting thin materials, precision cutting, or contour cutting. However, they may have reduced chip clearance and cutting efficiency compared to blades with left and right set teeth.
